Reading Week - 27th February- 3rd March 2023
Thurnham CE Infant School – Reading and Writing Week (incorporating World Book Day)
Monday 27th February – Friday 3rd March 2023
We are very excited to be able to give you details about our Reading Week. It will be a fun-filled week with lots of exciting activities planned.
Essential Information for Parents and Carers
- Competition!
We love to encourage the children to read all sorts of print – books are a tiny part of the reading which they will do for the rest of their lives. Please take a photo of your child reading anything other than a book, print it and send it in to school by Thursday 2nd March so that all entries can be judged on Friday 3rd March. Winners will be chosen and a small prize presented. Please ensure that your child’s name and class are clearly written on the back and ask your child to give their photo to their class teacher. We look forward to seeing some entertaining and unusual photos!
- Book Fair
We will be holding our usual Book Fair during Reading Week. The children will be introduced to the books on Monday 27th February and the Book Fair will be after school each day from Tuesday 28th February until Thursday 2nd March. There will be a fantastic selection of books and we would like to thank the Friends of Thurnham who will be collecting orders and helping on the stalls. Please come along and support the school by buying some books and encouraging a love of reading.
- Come into school to share stories with your children and their friends
We would like to invite you into school on Friday 3rd March at 2.30pm, to share stories with your children and their friends. Children love to see their parents, grandparents or other relatives in school and it is a lovely chance to share stories with them in the school environment. Please bring your favourite stories or use any from school.
- Dress up as a character from a book
Thursday 2nd March (World Book Day) is our dressing up day. Please send your child to school dressed as a book character- we do not need amazing bought costumes - something home assembled is perfect. Don’t forget to send the book to school too! We will have a parade of costumes in the playground (or in the hall if it is raining). This is always a fantastic day for the children and the adults never fail to be amazed by the talent and creativity of parents!
Activities for the Children
- Thursday 2nd March – World Book Day – We are having a visit from Year 5 pupils at Roseacre who are coming to share some of their best loved stories with our children. We will also send home the £1 World Book Day vouchers. These can be used to buy the special world book day books or can be used to get £1 off any book. The vouchers expire quite quickly so don’t forget to use them to get a free book.
We know that the children will all have a fantastic and inspiring week. Please encourage them to tell you about their day and what they have been reading and writing. If your child is inspired to read or write more at home, please ask them to bring it into school to share.
If any parents or grandparents have any writing talents which they feel able to share with the children, please contact your class teacher or Mrs Chaudry.
Thank you for all your support for our activities in school. We look forward to seeing as many parents, grandparents and other friends and relatives as possible in school during Writing Week.
