Applying to Thurnham Church of England Infant School
Admission arrangements are made by Kent County Council (KCC) and parents apply for a place for their child in school via the Reception Common Admissions Form, on which they can name up to three chosen schools. A place is then offered direct from KCC.
Children are admitted to school during the academic year in which they are five years old.
At Thurnham, we have an agreed intake of 90 children into our EYFS (Reception) classes, who are mainly welcomed into the school at the start of the Autumn term, although a deferred start can be discussed.
Children Starting School in September 2027
Do you have a child born between 1st Sept 2022 and 31st August 2023?
If so, please apply for a place online before Friday 15th January 2027.
Application for Primary Intake opens Friday 6th November 2026 and closes Friday 15th January 2027.

Whilst the closing date for KCC (Kent County Council) to receive applications is Friday 15th January 2027 applications that are submitted no later than Thursday 11th February 2027 for a good reason will be treated as “on time” if it is reasonably practicable to accept them. These applications must be received no later than Thursday 11th February 2027. Please speak to Primary Admissions for more advice on 03000 412121.
Applications received after Thursday 11th February 2027 but before Friday 30th April 2027 will not receive a school offer on Friday 16th April 2027. KCC will consider these reallocation applications with applicants that have joined a school’s waiting list on the reallocation date of Thursday 27th May 2027. If none of the schools you have expressed a preference for on a reallocation application can be offered to you, KCC will offer you an alternative school. They will also advise you on your right to appeal against this decision and place you on the waiting list of any schools you named that were a higher preference than the school you were offered.
After Thursday 27th May 2027 you can request to go on any school’s waiting list and if places become available, we will offer directly to parents. KCC will not make any further offers.
Applications made after Thursday 27th May 2027 should be made directly to the school.
Moving to a Different School
If your child is at primary, junior or secondary school and you want to move them to a different school in Kent, you will need to submit an In Year Admissions Form.
Unlike an admissions application when a child starts school, we cannot make this offer on your behalf. You are required to apply to the school(s) that you want your child to attend.
As there is no guarantee that your preferred school(s) will have a space available for your child, you should not remove them from their current school before you are sure they have somewhere else to go.
If you want to move your child to a school in Kent, you must complete the In Year Admissions Form.

Apply for an In Year Admission
Your application will be sent automatically to the schools you have selected. A copy will also be sent to the Kent In Year Admissions Team for monitoring purposes.
As the availability of school spaces can change at any time, you are advised to ring schools directly to see if they have a place in your child’s year group.
